Listen and Guide, Someone to
No person survives well without the help of others.
At this time, as humans, we all had a mother and father. To some degree
they assisted our survival.
Along the way, there have been many others helping. Can you recall a
friendly relative or teacher that helped you?
I'm amazed how others help me so often!
A Few Examples
When my children's mother was in the hospital, I struck up conversations
with the two ladies next to her.
One was an eighteen year old. She told me how she would do things
verbally to hurt her boy friend.
After a few questions, she was smiling and laughing. I know she was a
The other lady was 83 years old. As I talked to her, she would drift from
being herself to being someone insane. When she was insane, she was
pretty scary! Now, her insanity was never directed at me but I could see it,
She had absolutely no one to call to help her.
The hospital wanted to take her home but she didn't have keys to her
apartment. I was concerned, since it was a county hospital, that they might
take her to skid row and dump her out! It has been known to happen!
The best I could do to help her was to give her two five dollar bills, all the
cash I had, and my card. I told her to call me if she needed to.
She was someone that I really didn't want to entangle myself with but couldn't
ignore her situation. I'm very happy she did not call.
Had she called, I would have done something to help her. I don't know what
but I care enough to go out of my way to help!
The last example was a friend of mine. She was working in a bar. She was
also eight months pregnant with her first child. I went in to shoot pool.
She knew me well enough to ask me, "Carl, I have a headache, what can I
I said let me think about that and walked over to my table.
There was nothing I could recommend she take at all. I'd never recommend
any drugs and no supplement I know of is likely to handle a headache.
So I went back to her and asked her about ten questions.
Suddenly, she's high-fiving me (slapping palms) and said her headache was

Have you ever tried to say something and you kept getting interrupted? How
about trying to tell people something and no one seemed interested?
I sure have experienced both those situations.
I know a lady who gives massages. She doesn't want me to talk. She wants
me to experience the massage. She has a point!
The point here is, do you have someone who will listen? Do they tell you
what to think? Do they make you wrong? Do they deny what you state is
Once when my wife had passed away, something good was happening! I
had NO ONE to tell it too! I cried and I cried.
I handled that by getting remarried to the most wonderful lady @MaryHWatts!
